At Powers Physio your well-being is our priority.

At Powers Physio your well-being is our priority.

Establised in 2007, Powers Physio is a holistic practice of experienced physiotherapists based in Cape Town, South Africa, with rooms in Bergvliet and Fresnaye.
At Powers Physio, we pride ourselves on individualised patient-centred care, and excellent interpersonal and clinical skills. Within a holistic framework that addresses the body-mind connection, we explore and identify the source of your symptoms, working together towards optimising your health and function, whether in everyday life or competitive sport.
Our practice is founded on thorough assessments and evidence-based treatment, with close attention given to the psychological contributors to pain and injury. Providing a safe environment and building trust are focal to facilitating your journey towards restoration of health.

We have a strong rehabilitative focus, and promote self management and prevention of injuries. We use education and exercise to empower you in your recovery, and offer Pilates-based exercise classes to aid in this.

Meet the team

Andrea Powers
Andrea qualified with a BSc in physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town in 1999. She graduated as the top student in her class, obtaining her degree with distinction. Over the next 7 years, she gained valuable work experience in South Africa and Europe, and in 2007 started her private practice in Fresnaye, Cape Town. In 2015, she moved to work from home in Bergvliet, and left the Fresnaye practice under the capable management of her colleague, Jodi Aderem.

Andrea has completed numerous post-graduate courses over the last 24 years, most noteably a diploma in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT1) in 2001, and a diploma in Sports Physiotherapy (SPT1) in 2007, both of which refined her problem-solving expertise and manual therapy skills.

Her interest in rehabilitation became more focused in 2007, when she qualified as a Pilates mat instructor, passing her course with distinction. This rehabilitative focus expanded to include children after completing the Physifun course, and becoming more involved in treating sports injuries in children and adolescents.

She has 24 years’ experience in orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation and holds an Advanced Professional Development Level 2 (APDL2) certification in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy.

Latterly Andrea has delved more into the field of pain management, and to this end, she has completed numerous modules of the National Diploma in Pain Management. Her experience in this field has been consolidated working alongside her colleague Tracy Prowse, helping children, adolescents and adults with chronic pain.

Andrea is married with three children, and enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and exercising in the outdoors.

Sports massage
For loosening and relaxing muscles prior to an event or to aid quick recovery, sports massage is integral to many athletes’ agendas.
Home visits
Home visits can be done on request if the client is house-bound or immobilised after an operation or injury.
Individual programme design
Whether you are looking for a gym or home routine to keep flexible and fit, or a sport-specific strength and conditioning programme aimed at improving your performance, an individually designed programme will target your needs.
Pre-season screening assessments
Prevention is better than cure! Pre-season screening assessments aim to detect weakness before an injury occurs and provide appropriate intervention to restore full strength and flexibility.
Ergonomic work station assessments
Work station assessment can be discussed in depth at the practice and guidelines given for improvements. Advice is also offered on ergonomic aids and ‘pause exercises’ to do at work. If necessary and appropriate, further assessment can be done at the workplace.
Referrals
As we prioritise the needs of the client, we often refer to healthcare professionals such as biokineticists, psychologists and dieticians. Physiotherapists can refer for X-rays and will refer to specialists such as orthopaedic surgeons or neurologists whenever necessary.
